Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has selected Reece Walsh ahead of James Tedesco at fullback for Australia's Rugby League World Cup opener. Walters outlined his thinking for leaving Tedesco out, with reports linking Tedesco's NRL grand final performance to the call.
The decision has drawn attention across the rugby league community, given Tedesco's status among the best in the position. It is one of the more debated picks heading into the tournament.
Jack Preston was also added to the team, earning his debut. Preston's inclusion adds depth to the squad as Australia prepares for the World Cup campaign.
